In the Adolescent Rye: the Lonely Catcher of Innocence: the Symbolic Meanings in The Catcher of the Rye

Abstract


The Catcher in the Rye is regarded as one of the most popular modern classics in American literature, and the hero of this novel, Holden Caulfield, also is one of the most famous characters in American literary history. On the basis of analysis of the symbolic meanings of the imagery of articles, surroundings and protagonist in the novel, this paper explores Holden’s rebellion, radical ness, enthusiasm and his inner world —the lonely watcher in the rye.

Résumé L’Attrape-Coeur est considéré comme un des classiques modernes dans la littérature contemporaire américaine, et le héros de ce roman, Holden Caulfield, est aussi l’un des personnages littéraires les plus connus de l’histoire littéraite américaine. Sur la base de l’analyse des significations symboliques des images, de l’environnement et du héros de ce roman, l’article suivant explore d’une manière approfondie les caractères rebelle, radical, faible d’Holden Caulfield et son monde intérieur — la garde solitaire dans le « chams de blé »

摘 要 《麥田裏的守望者》被稱為當代美國文學的 “現代經典 ”之一,小說中的主人公霍爾頓 •考菲爾德更是美國文學史上最著名的文學形象之一。本文通過對小說中反復出現的事物﹑環境﹑主人公的象徵意義的闡釋,深入分析了一個 “守望者 ”霍爾頓 •考菲爾德,在成長的 “麥田”上,孤獨的精神世界以及其叛逆﹑激進同時又軟弱的性格特徵。
